Timebomb - The Full Wrath of the Slave

"Italian, vegan straight edge, anarcho-communist black metal."
Timebomb is relatively unknown, and I can't dig up any information on them, besides from that catchy little tag I quoted above. While I can gather the Black Metal influence, from the tremolo-blastbeat-heavy interludes, this is more of a straight ahead thrash album than anything else (and pretty impressive for an album that came out in '97).

As I see it, they sound like a more organic, but equally heavy, Godflesh, mixed with the groove and thrash sensibilities of Sepultura.

Nocnitsa Demos + Reupped Talking Head Performance

Bleak Metal from Baltimore, MD. They've recorded one cassette demo, and are currently in the works of producing their first album. The tape demo is 30 minutes long and features both songs recorded from their April '08 Talking Head Club Performance, as well as some more macabre acoustic and percussive tracks recorded outdoors:

2007/08 Cassette Demo

A little while back Mediafire decided to get fresh and delete my upload of Nocnitsa's show at the Talking Head Club last year, so here's a reupp:

Nocnitsa @ The Talking Head Club April 21st, 2008

And for the hell of it, here's a song from Blodtorste's demo, which was essentially made up of Nocnitsa's original line-up:

Blodtorste - Bleed For the Count

They've got a show coming up next month with Locrian, Corporeal, and The New Flesh July 8th at the Talking Head Club in Baltimore, MD (off of Saratoga), as well as a show with Corporeal and Ludicra in August (details to come in soon).

Dishammer

This is Dishammer from Madrid, Spain. Band adopts a crusty-gallop comparable to Darkthrone and mixes it with some blackened-thrash. Reminds me of that Black Goat I posted a little while back (which all of you should listen to). I think what I'm trying to say is--these guys sounds a lot like Darkthrone...and that's not a bad thing. Cool band.

Varg Vikernes (Burzum) Released from Prison Today. // BURZUM Super Post

Duuuude. Source here.

"I'm ready for society — and I have been for many years," Vikernes told Dagbladet last July . "I have learned from my mistakes and become older. Now I just want to be together with my family. My mind has never been in prison; I think all the time about what I should do on the day that I am released." He added, "I have barely seen my son since he came into the world. Even though I hear his voice on the phone almost every day, it is very tough to not be present while he is growing up. I miss my family. And I look forward the day that I could work on my farm, create music, write books and be with the wife and kids around the clock — and live a normal life. I have received tremendous support from my family. It means a lot."

CORRECTION: Varg is to be released SOON, not March 10th. I expect within the week or so.

Wolves in the Throne Room - Diadem of 12 Stars

What do you get when you mix a radical environmentalist with a nihilistic metalhead?

Wolves in the Throne Room - Diadem of 12 Stars

(Black Metal from the outskirts of Olympia, Washington)

Xasthur-Leviathan

Another record salvaged from my old job--this is a Xasthur/Leviathan Split. About as lo-fi and abrasive as you can get:

MIA as far as I can tell.

A heaping helping of BATHORY

Bathory--the foundation for Black Metal as a whole and flagship of Nordic Viking Metal. If you have any interest whatsoever in Black Metal--download this (start with Blood Fire Death). My personal favorite? Hammerheart.

NOCNITSA

This is in reference to the post we made back when NOCNITSA made their first appearance at WMUC on Third Rail with Ol' Scratch. The dude who was originally hosting a recording of their live gig at the Talking Head, a month before the WMUC show, took it down, so I'm going to re-up it:

NOCNITSA - Live @ the Talking Head

Again, I want to stress; if you're going to check out ANY band on mindgrinder, at least check out the guys who really need to exposure...including the bands I've listed in that little box above our posts. Support local music.

ALSO; this is a blog related note...this is old news to us, but you may or may not have noticed that our old "mediamax" links no longer work. The site's changed quite a bit since we originally started using it, and I'm pretty sure that they no longer host files for free...so that means that our old old old posts, back from when the show originally started, have crossed out links to song samples we used to post. There are also removed links from old band spots we've done in the past, such as RAMMER and the ChristPunchers. In the future I'll try to be more prompt with taking care of "hosting issues" and keep you guys updated. Take care.
