Slaughter Strike - Demo

Sorry for the lapse in posts here. whoops.

This is Slaughter Strike (members of The Endless Blockade and RAMMER) from Canada.

Vocals-wise the band sounds JUST like RAMMER, but the similarities between the two bands stop there. To be blunt, the hard-headed tech-death-thrash style of RAMMER doesn't really bleed over too much here--which is not a bad thing. Slaughter Strike is well balanced between Death Metal and The Endless Blockade's brand of grindcore (real grindcore) on the demo...they deliver a pretty vicious grind attack with some grimy breakdowns here and there. It's everything you ever could have hoped for from this pair-up.

Slaughter Strike - Demo

They just released a record on Cyclopian Records, buy it herr

Also thanks to those of you who have still been sticking around since we stopped posting back in July. I'll try to post 2 or 3 things every week if I can manage it from this point on.

Insect Warfare - Evolved Into Obliteration

Here's a new vinyl release adapted from their Demo CD that ran out of circulation shortly before the release of 'World Extermination'. Apparently some people like this more than the actual album...but that's probably because people get so damned sick of listening to the actual album (for instance: Grey, Nirvana, Black Flag). There's not a whole lot of difference I can hear between the demo and the final record, besides from the mix sounding a little dirtier (and the drums sounding a fuckload better). Nonetheless--a cool thing to have:

Agathocles

Mincecore (politically driven grindcore) based in Belgium. The whole album is carried by one badass blastbeat through this noisy grinding mess of palm muting, distortion, and throaty vocals...my kind of shit.

Flesh Parade - Kill Whitey 7" and Extended Version

Apparently RELAPSE decided to release a Flesh Parade Comp. of the same name as their "Kill Whitey 7""...

Carcinogen - Kure (Demo)

Carcinogen existed in the early nineties and was a starting point for Dystopia bassist Todd and drummer Dino. They're commonly referred to as "Pre-Dystopia", as their demo offers a early look at the later band. As I see it, their demo is just as primordial, thrashy and grinding as Carcass' first record. If anyone has their promo, give me a shout.

Carcass - Complete Peel Sessions

I talked about Carcass a good while ago here, back when they originally started their "reunion" tour. Lucky for you, they're still on that very same tour and probably coming to a dive-bar near you, playing all of your favorite hits from Necroticism and Heartwork. How is it that Carcass is still doing this tour, but Sleep refuses to push their reunion beyond a couple dates in the UK? Does anyone care anymore?

...anyway--this is a complete collection of their John Peel recording sessions, dating from late '89 and '91. The entirety of the sessions wasn't circulated until their 'Best-of' album 'Choice Cuts' was released...and since most of you probably didn't bother with it, I packaged it on its own:

Magrudergrind - Self Titled

Magrudergrind is thrashviolence/grindcore/'whatever genre tag you want to regurgitate' from the Baltimore/District of Columbia area. Here's a vinyl rip of Magrudergrind's self-titled EP, released sometime in late May/early June. I've been avoiding uploading this for a month or so now, but I think the band has more vested interest in people digging their album than making profit.

...Nonetheless

Disassemble - Demogrinder

If this baby-eating motherfucker could be represented through sound...he would be Disassemble.

Local (for us), Baltimore based grindcore. This 2008 demo counts as their first release, and it's not a bad foot to start out on. Mix the emotion of 'Dystopia' with the thrashviolence of Magrudergrind, and you've got Disassemble. I still haven't gotten the chance to catch them live yet, but I met Kyle, Billy, and Kevin a little while back. Cool dudes:

A MINDJUICING

Being out of school has been interesting, and I've probably been about as productive as I was during our summer break. It's just been a lot sitting around til 4 at the night listening to the same 4 or 5 bands and going out to see shows every now and then. I've collected a good amount of Jap. Grindcore that I've yet to sort through...

I keep running into this wall of shitty awful music that I can't sidestep or navigate around. One of those bands is Waiting For Decay, which was recently uploaded to Sludge Swamp--here's my own upload of the album:

Waiting For Decay - Arena For The Unwell

I apologize now for my inability to put this eloquently...but this album fucking sucks. It's really really terrible. It sounds like Metallica if they stopped tossing riff salad, went back to their Load/ReLoad/Black Album era, and recorded an entire album of "hard" acoustic songs. It's all here--the alternative cliche "emotion-drenched" singing, the awful heart felt lyrics about how BROKEN he is, the loud-quiet dynamic, the chain wallets. It's something this guy would listen to:

Fuck that guy. Don't download it.

Anything relatively decent that I've run across has been stuff that Hasan from Death By Hanger pointed me towards, like:

Hotbild - Vemod
(Blackened Crustcore, Crusty Black Metal, or something...)

Rotten Sound - Cycles
(grind)

There's also this band out found out of my own volition:

El Buzzard - Tranquilizante Del Elefante
("screamo" is what a lot of people are calling this, sounds more like KARP worship to me)

The group broke up sometime around 2007 and uploaded their entire catalog onto their site for free download. If you like what you hear, check it out.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shows attended throughout the break:
News Years Eve: Magrudergrind w/ Poison Planet, Coke Bust, Born Bad @ the Corpse Fortress
1/2/09 Surroundings w/ Mammoth Grinder, Triac, DEATHAMMER, and Ramming Speed (and some band with Bird in title...) @ the Corpse Fortress
1/3/09 NOCNITSA w/ some big goateed gentleman with a bass guitar that kept a man who played the bongos with him, and a Disc Jockey that played Harsh Black Ambient @ the Talking Head Club
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vague Events:

We're due to be back on the air the week of the first day of classes, which is the 25th or so. Still no word on our placement in the schedule...hopefully it'll be close to what we had last semester.

Napalm Death - Scum, Obliteration (Enslavement)

It's been a little while without a real update around here...we're both kind of swamped intermittently with school work and projects and I'm still attempting to rebuild my music library. We've also been busting our asses to get this Third Rail thing into gear (WHICH YOU SHOULD COME TO). Anyway--

These are Napalm Death's first two albums:
Scum
From Enslavement To Obliteration

Some of grindcore at it's earliest and finest...there's tons of worthless trivial details based around this band that I won't go into, but I will state these things:
-They DEFINED grindcore.
-They formed in the early 80s and were influenced by anarcho-punk and post-punk bands, most noted were Rudimentary Peni, Crass, SWANS, and Amebix.
-Bill Steer WAS in the band, but only for two years (keep in mind they had already existed for half a decade at that point), then promptly left to turn his full attention to CARCASS.

If you like this, you might want to check out Hasan's post on grindcore "supergroup" Venomous Concept, which features members from the Melvins, Brutal Truth, and Napalm Death over at Death By Hanger.

Did I mention the show tonight is FREE??
6PM-9PM (3 Hours before the Magrudergrind show in DC), FREE, two awesome bands--Black Skies from NC, DEATHAMMER from Baltimore, FREE, and so on.

Have trouble getting to the University of Maryland's Campus or not know how to?

Whether you're coming from the north or south, you'll want to be on 95. You want to take the 495 exit headed towards Silver Spring/Bethesda/US-1/College Park. After that, you'll take an exit on the left towards US-1/College Park/Weight Station/Carpool, and then take the exit (most likely on the right) towards US-1/College Park. From there merge onto 495 east, then take the Baltimore Avenue/US-1 exit. So, you're going to turn a slight right onto Route 1 and follow the road 'til you get to paint branch/campus drive, which you'll take a right on, and enter the campus.

From there, follow this map I've made:

Have problems? Call WMUC @ (301)314-8800 and ask for Fred or Scotty.

See you there

!T.O.O.H.!

!T.O.O.H.! (The Obliteration Of Humankind) were a "deathgrind" band from the great Czech Republic. In their infancy, they were sort of a straight-ahead death metal group, in the sense that their lyrics revolved mainly around gore (like most Brutal Death Metal Groups). Later on, as the band matured, their lyrics picked up focus moreso on politics than anything else. The band managed to release 3 LPs before disintegrating, woefully at the hands of their label Earache Records (who dropped them a couple of months after the release of their album, which financially devastated them).

!T.O.O.H.! has a very distinctive sound that's difficult for me to describe--but every single time I listen to them, I enjoy them immensely. If you're relatively interested in grindcore, death metal (Death, Cynic, so on and so forth), or Eastern-European Metal bands in general, check this out:

Pod Vlaudou Bice
Rad a Trest (last record)
