Cro-Mags - Best Wishes + 1984 Demo

Oof. Documentation of another great hardcore/crossover band biting the dust after they make jump over to Heavy Metal or, in this case, Thrash. This one will grow on you after awhile. Also included is their '84 demo which features most of the songs from Quarrel...I think it was released as 'Before the Quarrel' later on.

Low Threat Profile - Self Titled 7"

Self Titled 7" by Low Threat Profile (members of Crossed Out/Infest/Lack of Interest). Fast Hardcore packed into a 4 minute record...apparently took close to a decade for this to get released. You can pick it up at Celebrated Summer and probably a million places around the tubes for $15 or so.

Low Threat Profile - Self Titled

Also a heads up to those of you who like punk/grind but don't want to spend a shit-ton on CDs and records and whatnot (and don't mind the character that comes with cassettes), check out ThrashMouthRecords. I've already uploaded 4 or 5 tapes from their catalog, but you can get a handful of tapes for around 10 bucks with only 2 or 3 dollars shipping...all quality underground stuff. Plus, they just put out a GODSTOMPER/Dos Amigos split. They're good friendly dudes, check it out.

WHITE SHIT - Sculpted Beef

White Shit is mathematically calculated hardcore murder masterminded by guitarist Andy Coronado (Monorchild, Skull Kontrol, Wrangler Brutes), with Jared Warren on Vox and Coady Willis on Drums (Big Business). Been waiting for this for a loooong time:

Nausea - Extinction

Crust Punk from NYC's C-Squat back in the mid to late 80s through the early 90s. Loud, dark, angry, and righteous as fuck:

Timebomb - The Full Wrath of the Slave

"Italian, vegan straight edge, anarcho-communist black metal."
Timebomb is relatively unknown, and I can't dig up any information on them, besides from that catchy little tag I quoted above. While I can gather the Black Metal influence, from the tremolo-blastbeat-heavy interludes, this is more of a straight ahead thrash album than anything else (and pretty impressive for an album that came out in '97).

As I see it, they sound like a more organic, but equally heavy, Godflesh, mixed with the groove and thrash sensibilities of Sepultura.

Eating Glass - Feed Them To The Vultures

Canook (Southern Ontario) Thrashcore, complete with flowered chest tattoos and blastbeats. Track after track is a crunchy misanthropic exploration played at light-speed. You can hear the skin being shred off of this dude's esophagus.

8 Tracks, 11 minutes:

YDI - Black Dust

This record came out at a time when the blending of different genres and types of extreme music was generally frowned upon. Black Dust represents a mild blending of Heavy Metal and Hardcore punk...yet somehow, people still talk shit on this record to this day. See for yourself:

(classic Philly Hardcore)

Also, check out their much praised EP, A Place In The Sun

S.D.S. (not the activist kids)

S.D.S. (Societic Death Slaughter) is Japanese Crustcore. Like ambient Japanese Crustcore with songs reaching as long as 10 minutes. This blew my head off:

S.D.S. - Ameber

Real Reggae - Maze + THC Best

Real Reggae is Japanese Hardcore...a weird fusion of hardcore. This record spans over many varied subgenres of hardcore, like thrashcore, powerviolence, Oi Punk, traditional hardcore, and Bad-Brains style "Reggaecore" (albeit very rarely on this record). RR do exceptionally, and surprisingly, pretty well at capturing the energy of every single of them.

If only the cover art was better.

Black Flag 1982 Demo

Played parts of this on 'Pat Robertson's Crust and Powerviolence Hour' back in the day (like three months ago). This demo features Chuck Biscuits (and is probably the only BF recording with him on it) on drums, Dez on second guitar, and Rollins on vox. The recordings took place during a brief period in 1982 when it was illegal for the band to record or release any material (for reasons I can't remember...fill me in here), which makes this demo that much more special. This recording is raw:

The Abominable Iron Sloth

Think newer Hardcore mixed with Sludge squeezed into sort of a sped up funeral crawl. The Abominable Iron Sloth is the brain child of Justin Godfrey, as the band manifested after he was joined by the members of Will Haven, who split shortly after their first European Tour. Godfrey recruited the members of El Cerdo, changed the name of the band to 'The Indomitable Iron Sloth' and are planning to release new material soon.

This is another one of those promos I got at my last job...some love em...others hate em...

BEHOLD

Circle Jerks - Group Sex

My personal vinyl rip of the Circle Jerks' 15 minute album 'Group Sex'. It's authentic too--only two tracks; First Side and Second Side! Oh the novelty!!

(I was actually too lazy to cut up the tracks.)

Pillsbury Hardcore Discography

This is Straight-Edge Hardcore from the Mid-Eighties...I originally ran into these guys through Spazz's cover of their song "Hey Bob, What's Up?". Pillsbury Hardcore laid the groundwork for the powerviolence movement a few year later, and the members went onto bands like "Man Is The Bastard" and "Pissed Happy Children". They named the band after their Hardcore-Obsessed buddy who looked uncannily like the Pillsbury Dough Boy.

Y-DI.

I had the pleasure of seeing these guys play live at DNA Test Fest a couple of weekends ago, and they were easily my favorite band that played the second night (if you missed out on it--GO NEXT YEAR.) Y-DI is an old-school hardcore band hailing from Philly. In their lifespan, they released one EP, which is included in this post, one LP, and they were also featured on the Philly Hardcore Comp. "Get Off My Back" (which I can probably track down if you want it).

These guys are just as energetic as they were back in '83--if you happen to live in the Philly area, I suggest you check them out at The Khyber; they're playing a show there on the 21st of August.
